How is earth being affected by Global Warming?

As the earth’s temperature increases, it causes other changes...

Melting glaciers are causing a rising sea level which will eventually flood coastlines and submerge islands all around the world. The flow of ice from glaciers is being measured around the world and it is increasing at an alarming rate. The Artic Ocean could be ice-free by the year 2050. In the Asian region of Bangladesh, residents are already being forced to move because of rising tides, far above what has ever been recorded in their lifetime. Rising tides will displace 13 to 30 million people around the globe.

Changes are ocurring in the amount of average precipitation, as well as increased extreme weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, heat waves and droughts. Already, in the last 30 years, the number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes have almost doubled. Heat waves are becoming more frequent and lasting longer, causing massive wild fire damage in regions all around the world.

Unexpected changes in agricultural yields are occuring due to drought and/or flooding events . The World Bank has warned of a decline of rice crop up to 30 percent with predicted sea levels rising. Cultures around the world are already experiencing severe droughts, and a lack of water has forced hundreds of thousands of people to permanently leave their habitats in seek of new water sources .

Species extinctions are ocurring due to the temperature changes, and increases in disease carrying insects . Malaria has already spread to higher altitudes in places like The Columbian Andes, where it used to be unheard of to find mosquitoes at 7,000 feet above sea level. Scientists have already determined that at least 279 species of plants and animals are responding to global warming by migrating closer to the poles.

Destabilization of ocean currents may cause changes in the flow of jet stream, and create the threat of an ice age.

Human deaths from global warming could double within 25 years!
